Is a Single-Ply Membrane Right for Your Roof?
These membranes are highly versatile. Depending on your building's environment, single-ply membrane roofing systems can offer a large cost savings.
The cost savings of Single-ply membrane systems is undeniable. In the right circumstances, this roofing system is quickly installed, lasts 20+ years, and requires little maintenance. Single-ply membranes have a high solar reflectivity, increasing your energy efficiency.
Single-ply membranes can be installed with mechanical fasteners or bonding adhesive. Bonding adhesives can come in Low-VOC, and can be a better option for businesses as they do not create noise pollution, unlike mechanical fasteners, which penetrate through the metal deck. The membranes' seams are heat-welded together.
What are single-ply membranes?
Single-ply membranes are one sheet of chemically bonded material. TPO, PVC, EPDM, are all types of single-ply membranes. TPO is a chemically bonded material with decent elongation properties, but does not fare well in chemical environments. PVC membranes provide high chemical resistance while maintaining elongation properties. EPDM is a synthetic rubber membrane, which does not pollute rainwater. EPDM is excellent in northern climates because it comes in black, and can help retain heat.
